Freedom has a high price they say

As high as that of slavery

But then, do we ask what is freedom really?

Free from our commitments or responsibilities

Free from  the burdens or just having endless choices

Free from the laws of nature or the tradition that existed for centuries

Free to make our own rules, without boundaries

Free from feeling guilty of our blessings

Free to live our lives without judgments

Free to love life and live it fully

Free to follow our hearts and live life shamelessly

Free is what we are, naturally!

Women of our generation!

The world we live in today is funny, emotional, corrupt, heartless, demanding, damaging, bloodsucking…etc The list is endless; and we have to fight for what we believe in otherwise we’ll get killed. We have to really stand up and protect ourselves and fight for dear life. Especially if you’re not an ass kisser like me. It doesn’t get easier. Today, we have two worlds and two generations fighting for what they believe in and never agreeing on one thing and we’re stuck in the middle. Because though we are one, we come from different times and generations. And one thinks their way is better than the other.

Today we have a lot of people leaving their families behind and starting their journey on their own to see where life might take them, but this comes with a big sacrifice. There’s a lot of people like me who left their families back home and moved to a different continent with a different culture and tradition trying to follow their bliss and have a better life. My journey has been nothing but challenging and I’m grateful for the hardships I went through cos’ it really made me appreciate how far I’ve come, how I see life  and where I’m headed. All the people I met and the troubles I’ve overcome made me wiser, kinder, better and stronger. Amen to that!

soldier me 3

When people move in groups, I stayed in my lane,  I didn’t mind being a loner because I knew where I was headed. It never did bother me. I did my own shit, dressed like I wanted, never really followed a crowd. I was always in a different space and place. I stayed true to myself, been hurt too many times and vowed to never hurt anyone I encounter on my journey. I moved on purpose. Everything I did, I made sure I did out of love and care.. Of course, I made mistakes but they only made me sharper and focused. I always found ways to feed my soul, did what I had to do to survive, I was there for the people who needed me, not because I had to, but because I wanted to. Just for love. Nothing else. But in the process of it all I lost myself. I was a servant and I still am. Because I believe that’s why I’m here. To serve humanity. But I completely lost myself because I thought I didn’t matter and since I was always the strong one, I ignored myself, because I thought I could do it all. Which is absolutely a massive mistake. But on the good side, I thought myself to be humble, kept my feet on the ground and stayed grounded. So many times I fell and got back up again. As the new generation and time got me thinking; I always tell myself, I got to do better, I have to be better than I was yesterday, I need to grow and move elegantly through life.

my grandmother and my mother’s generation is different to mine. They lived in a time where arranged marriage is acceptable and the highest achievement in life is to get married and have kids.  And all they could think of is for me get married and have kids. It feels like all my achievements in life, my ambitions and dreams, the way I am, how far I’ve come, my struggles and all that I am is never enough and is so not appreciated. I find myself growing apart from my family because I know I’m a disappointment to them. Regardless of how hard I tried to make them see my point of view, I will never succeed and they will never understand. And I will never understand their way of life either. Two generations who come from one land fighting for what they believe in but no one is winning.

We live in different times and ages. If a woman refuses to live the life that’s planned for her, she gets disowned by her parents because she said no to live the life they want for her. Their best line is” we know what’s best for you and we want you to be happy”. Wait, hold up! Did I say I’m sad? And you may have known me when I was little but 15 years later, I’m a different person. They need to understand their version of what’s best for us in their eyes might not actually be the best thing for us. They need to allow people to move on at their own pace, let them live life the way they want to and just let them be. And if we don’t obey we get disowned? What ignorance. It really breaks my heart to see that women of our time and age are not appreciated for who they are without a husband and kids. Life is more than that. Open your eyes.

Maybe this should sum up what women of our age are like:

we are the women of our time. We struggle, we fight, we overcome. We might need to work twice as hard to get where we want to get to, but even then we still never give up. We shouldn’t! We simply can’t! We’re stronger that we’ll ever be. We are the women of our time and generation! And we’ll always rise!

That Homemade mouthwash for healthy gums!

Homemade mouthwash!

So, about 3 weeks ago, my tooth started aching badly and it was weird as my general mouth health is on point. Especially after I paid my dentist a visit at the beginning of the year and after she told me everything was in a good shape. It could only be related to the accident I had about 5 years ago when my jaw broke and it literally split in half and two of my teeth nearly fell out- it was gruesome- I thought I was going to be deformed for life. Thank God, I didn’t. *all smiles*

As usual I kept rinsing my mouth with warm water & Himalayan salt after I brush my teeth and hoped for the best, but the pain didn’t go away and suddenly I had the urge to make my own mouth wash. I stopped using mouth wash for a while now as it started eating up my gums, so I’ve had to rely on the Himalayan salt rinse for a while. The new mouthwash is amazing and after a day the pain was gone and now I’m in love with my mouthwash. It gives you a pleasant burning sensation just like the real mouthwash does, but only better and spicier. I’ve also noticed my teeth getting whiter and cleaner and my gums healthier. I haven’t had a single pain since I started using my miracle mouth wash. #happydays

You’ll need:

1 teaspoon of fine salt ( preferably Himalayan salt)

1 teaspoons of black pepper powder

1 teaspoons of cinnamon powder

Here’s what I made….

It really depends on how spicy you want it, so it’s up to you if want to increase the amounts. Try it and find your own perfect mix. The spicier the better! I sometimes put more black pepper when I want it stronger. You can keep adding warm water to your mix and also add more black pepper and cinnamon if you like it strong. The stronger the better!!

Mix all the ingredients together with warm water and rinse your mouth after you brush your teeth. You can also use it anytime you want- even in the middle of the day. There are no rules here.

The antibacterial property of black pepper helps to fight against infections and as a result  it reduces pain and inflammation in your gums.

Cinnamon is effective against gum infection mainly because of its antifungal and antimicrobial properties. It’s been used for years to heal gum infections, which I think is why there’s a cinnamon gum- my childhood favourite chewing gum. The warm water along with the salt helps to pull “fluid” out of the gum tissue, therefore reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and killing harmful bacteria.

Quote of the day:

“Innovation basically involves making obsolete that which you did before- Jay Abraham

A sensitive topic that gets people into arguments, hate, resentment and disappointment and the cliché saying of all time “expect nothing to avoid being disappointed”!  ohh really? I’d say expect away and get disappointed anyway. It’s part of life and part of who we are. It’s not something you simply can switch of.

Bruce Lee has once said “I’m not in this world to live up to your expectation and you’re not in this world to live up to mine” and this is exactly how I want to live my life. And I’m safe to say I’m doing well on this. Giving, just because I feel like it and not expecting anything in return. It’s not easy but, it’s the journey that I’m on. I’m working to better myself each and everyday and I’ve also read few books on self-development; and I will keep reading them. But the truth is, we’re humans and whether we do things expecting something in return or we don’t, we’re bound to feel disappointed when the love or the favour doesn’t get returned. Don’t blame me- blame your heart and the way we’re made. And if they say why why?- tell them that is human nature- just like MJ said!

proud to be me

Though, I’m trying to live my life according to Mr Lee’s quote above, it’s been challenging for me when it comes to letting people be. I don’t know if it’s a problem but I always see the good in people and it takes me a looooong time before I can say enough is enough and move on. I choose to see the good in people and always expect them to do better and be better. But I always get disappointed when they don’t live up to the expectation and the better image I have for them. See! I’m still expecting but I honestly don’t want to. Because, I figured everyone should be free and we cannot expect anyone to see life the way we do and expect them to think like we do. I’ve learned that we cannot expect them to be who we want them to be. Just as much as we don’t want them expecting us who to be.

We’re always going to end up resenting the people who make us do the things we hate doing and tell us to live our lives their way. And they’re always going to resent us for not fulfilling their wish. So if this is the case, why can’t we live FREELY ever after?!

The gorgeous Lisa Nicholas said, “ if you expect me to be the next Oprah, I will disappoint you massively, so let me just be Lisa Nicholas”

In a world full of expectations, just be!

In a world full of expectations, just be. You’re going to disappoint friends, parents, teachers…etc and you will never be perfect, and they’re also going to disappoint you. The sooner you get this the better. It’s about time we find peace with it but remember as long as you don’t disappoint you, honey! You’re good.

If you’re kind, be kind- don’t change because that one person is not being kind to you. If you’re crazy, be crazy! Don’t change because they want someone who’s boring. You are and should be loved the way you are.

I hope in the process of it all, you do not let anyone else’s expectations direct the course of your life.

Peace and Harmony

Rice water toner for shrinking pores, moisturising and cleansing skin!

No rose water? No problem! We can now use rice water as a face toner/cleanser!

That’s right you heard me right! Rice water is a great substitute for your regular toner and helps in reducing the size of the pores on your skin. It made my skin so clean and super smooth, my skin glows after I use it; and it definitely helped my pores shrink too. I love eating rice and I guess my skin loves it too. Happy days 🙂

There are 3 different methods to make it:   boiling, fermenting and no-boil quick method. I use the no boil quick method and I sometimes use the boiling method as well when I want to add in extra flavours or things- in this case orange peel.

You’ll need:

A cup of any rice and 2 cups of water. I use brown rice and the beauty of it is that you get to choose the type of rice you want to use. *wink* *Wink*

No boil quick method: First rinse the rice with about a cup of water to remove any dirt or impurities. But don’t over clean it- just rinsing it once is enough. If you wash it out properly, you’re going to lose all the goodness we’re after. STOP IT! Once you rinse it, place the rice in a bowl and cover with a cup of water. Let the rice soak for about 45 minutes. Swirl it around every 5 minutes until the water turns cloudy. Done!

The boiling method: You can also boil the rice to extract rice water. All you need to do is boil the rice using more water than you would normally do. Once it starts boiling take out the excess water, let it cool and use. This rice water will be very concentrated, so make sure to dilute it with plain water until it is just slightly cloudy.

Fermenting method: this is where you get to leave the rice soaking overnight. I tried fermenting it and boy is it a long process or what. FORGET IT!

rice water- image

Mine has that yellow-ish look as I put orange peel in it. I boiled the orange peel with the rice for 5 minutes and this is what gives it that orange color.

How to use it:

Dip in a cotton pad into the rice water and gently massage your skin with it for a minute. Use this every day- morning and evening after you wash your face. You can also use it to cleanse your skin after you use a mask. Don’t worry if you skip a day. I do it too.

Storage: you can store it in a fridge for up to a week and make sure you shake it well before using it. I keep mine for 7 days maximum. Please bin it after day 7, it starts to smell funky and I don’t trust it.

Rice water also has moisturising, antioxidant, and healing properties that help to improve circulation, prevents or fade age related spots, and ease inflammation to give you healthy, better moisturised and clear skin. As long as it’s left on the skin, rice water is even believed to offer mild protection from the sun.

Orange peel:

The abundant vitamin C and anti-oxidants in orange peels prevent your skin from getting too oily or dry. When applied to skin, they also work as a toner, removing dead cells and dirt and tightening pores.

Although it’s generally okay to eat the skins of fruits, I advise only doing so with organically farmed fruit. Why? Most farms spray insecticides to keep pests away. These insecticides remain on the fruit skin and may even penetrate deep into the flesh of the fruit. When consumed, the effects can be ugly, especially for children. Organic fruits have a lower risk, though you should still make sure to thoroughly wash them before consuming.

After you’re done with the rice, you can still make a good dish out of it. Don’t throw it away.

The ultimate hair mask for hair growth and damaged hair!

Hello dear readers

Well, I have an amazing recipe to share with you all. I’m calling it the ultimate hair smoothie!

For some odd reason I started losing hair- it was after my protective style so maybe it had something to do with it. This hair mask literally revived my hair and stopped losing hair since.

The ingredients are what we have at home- well, most of them. If you’re like me naturalista then you’d have them all. If not then take notes honey! 😉 My theory is to work with what we have and make the best of what we have. We have what we need, we just need to open our eyes and look outside the box and voila! we’ve made something out of nothing. As you may or may not know my mission is also to work with less chemicals if not avoid them completely. Our body is full of toxins which is why we need to avoid using chemicals and detox regularly. But that’s another subject for another time.

Let’s get to work!

Why you should do it!

Eggs are rich in protein and since hair is composed of 70 percent keratin protein it helps rebuild damaged hair by filling in weakened spots along the hair strand and prevents hair loss.

Spirulina is being widely used for promoting hair growth and to combat hair problems like thinning hair and baldness. Henna helps prevent dandruff, nourishes your scalp and cleanses dirt. It’s a great conditioner for your hair and adds shine and volume to it.

Yoghurt reduces hair fall and treats your scalp. You need yoghurt as it’s the main liquid ingredient holding all of your other ingredients together- the glue! Castor oil is good for hair growth as it helps increase circulation to the scalp. It works well against dandruff and scalp infections.

For this special hair smoothie we need:

1 egg- if you have a lot of hair 2 eggs

2 tablespoons of spirulina powder

4-5 tablespoons of yoghurt

1 and half tablespoon of henna

1 tablespoon of castor oil ( it’s very thick so don’t use more than this)

1 tablespoon of olive oil

First mix the yoghurt with your eggs and add your henna. Then slowly add castor oil and then mix well your spirulina powder into it and finally add your olive oil- preferably extra virgin oil and marry all your ingredients well.

Apply on your scalp and hair strands too- keep it on for 3 hours. Make sure you put a plastic bag on to lock heat. Wash it off and the result is AAhhmazing!!!! You’ll notice the results immediately. My hair was so clean it actually made that sound your teeth make when they’re squeaky-clean. The hair was well moisturised and soft but still has volume. This mask can be used as natural shampoo, so no need to wash it with a shampoo afterwards. No chemicals and we’re winning.

After your wash you can rinse it with rice water, apple cider vinegar and water rinse, camomile tea rinse or green tea rinse. Will talk about this in the near future. Till then stay tuned!
