5 ways I keep my teeth white and my gums healthy!

Well, hello dear folks, I’m coming to you today with these wonderful ways I keep my teeth white and my general oral health on point! I get asked a lot about it, so I thought I’d share and no I’ve never had them whitened. #smiles

1: I do oil pulling once or twice a week minimum. This is the best way to keep your teeth white and your gums healthy as well. It involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This practice draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health.

I usually do it with coconut oil but I also do it with sesame seed oil which is also good for our teeth and gums health. Plague/ tooth tartar is fat soluble which is why oil pulling works as it makes it softer.

P.s.  Sesame seed oil has a nutty taste to it, so you might not like it.

2: I make a tooth paste using baking soda and coconut oil which is absolutely the bomb! Baking soda has whitening properties and is normally added to a commercial toothpaste.

Here’s how:

  • Mix 4 teaspoons of banking soda powder ( not banking powder) and
  • 2 teaspoons of raw & unrefined coconut oil

  • Mix them well until they give you a paste, which will look like this:

I use this paste twice a day either on it’s own and/or mixed with a normal toothpaste. It has a salty taste to it, so you might be better off mixing it with a normal toothpaste.

If you want you can also add activated charcoal to your baking soda and coconut toothpaste. This works but it also stains the sink. You can do it for the first 7 days and then carry on with your oil pulling and the other methods. You don’t necessarily need this. But if you insist, GO AHEAD!

3: I make a mouth wash with black pepper, cinnamon and Himalayan salt ( even sea salt is ok to use). Mix all of the ingredients with warm water and it’s ready to use.

 I love love love this mouthwash. It’s all natural, chemical free and no alcohol but it works better than Listerine. Guaranteed! plus your pocket will thank you.

4: I floss at least once a week: This can be a daunting experience but it needs to be done. There just isn’t any other way! 😦 

If your teeth bleed a lot when you brush, you simply need to floss like there is no tomorrow. I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I do forget and they used to bleed but since I started oil pulling and using the electric tooth brush, using my mouth wash they are in a much better condition. Make sure you use the mouth wash during flossing though.

5: I use electric tooth brush. Now I know what you’re going to say, ” but, Bersi it’s too expensive” and I’ll say; Come on now,  if you see it as a long term investment, then you’re still winning mate.

Trust me! I used to say that to myself too and I have used Oral B Pulsar forever ( cos’ I used to get them on sale all the time and they were cheap, until they were not anymore); but it was  and still is battery operated and I got tired of buying them over and over again. The only solution was electric tooth brush and trust me,  I never regretted it.

My first experience: At first I bought the Superdrug brand cos’ I wanted to see if I was going to like it first. I thought it was good until I used Oral B Pro 600. #bestdiscoveryEver

LET ME TELL YOU!!! it is the best thing ever. It’s just the BOMB and I think everyone should have it. I bought mine on sale for £24.99 from Superdrug.

Please Note: Do not brush too harshly and avoid pressing it too hard. Just place it on your teeth and let it slide gently. you’re just there to guide it through and lead it where you want it to go.  #NotaRocketScience

That Homemade mouthwash for healthy gums!

Homemade mouthwash!

So, about 3 weeks ago, my tooth started aching badly and it was weird as my general mouth health is on point. Especially after I paid my dentist a visit at the beginning of the year and after she told me everything was in a good shape. It could only be related to the accident I had about 5 years ago when my jaw broke and it literally split in half and two of my teeth nearly fell out- it was gruesome- I thought I was going to be deformed for life. Thank God, I didn’t. *all smiles*

 

As usual I kept rinsing my mouth with warm water & Himalayan salt after I brush my teeth and hoped for the best, but the pain didn’t go away and suddenly I had the urge to make my own mouth wash. I stopped using mouth wash for a while now as it started eating up my gums, so I’ve had to rely on the Himalayan salt rinse for a while. The new mouthwash is amazing and after a day the pain was gone and now I’m in love with my mouthwash. It gives you a pleasant burning sensation just like the real mouthwash does, but only better and spicier. I’ve also noticed my teeth getting whiter and cleaner and my gums healthier. I haven’t had a single pain since I started using my miracle mouth wash. #happydays

 

You’ll need:

1 teaspoon of fine salt ( preferably Himalayan salt)

1 teaspoons of black pepper powder

1 teaspoons of cinnamon powder

Here’s what I made….

It really depends on how spicy you want it, so it’s up to you if want to increase the amounts. Try it and find your own perfect mix. The spicier the better! I sometimes put more black pepper when I want it stronger. You can keep adding warm water to your mix and also add more black pepper and cinnamon if you like it strong. The stronger the better!!

 

Directions:

 

Mix all the ingredients together with warm water and rinse your mouth after you brush your teeth. You can also use it anytime you want- even in the middle of the day. There are no rules here.

 

Benefits

 

The antibacterial property of black pepper helps to fight against infections and as a result  it reduces pain and inflammation in your gums.

Cinnamon is effective against gum infection mainly because of its antifungal and antimicrobial properties. It’s been used for years to heal gum infections, which I think is why there’s a cinnamon gum- my childhood favourite chewing gum. The warm water along with the salt helps to pull “fluid” out of the gum tissue, therefore reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and killing harmful bacteria.
